In 2013, Fife Council wanted to see the park better used, and asked for ideas about what should be done. They invited people to make proposals for how they could improve it. FEAT responded to the invitation to submit expressions of interest, and we were asked to develop our ideas in more detail. We are focusing our attention on the longer-term aim of renovating the former flax mill on site whilst in the meantime developing plans to open camping and glamping facilities & working in partnership with Fife Council & other organisations to deliver employability training for local people, gaining practical experience & qualifications whilst also maintaining the park.
Whatever is done needs to meet the conditions on which Silverburn was gifted - it was to be used for the benefit of the public in general and the people of Leven in particular, for nature trails, quiet parkland and organised camping.
We are interested because we think Silverburn fits very well with our focus on health and wellbeing. Our work involves helping people into employment, and offering training and volunteering opportunities, and this approach works well at Silverburn.
We need to come up with a package of both community and commercial activities to keep the Park financially self-sustainable. Our business plan has been approved by Fife Council and we are now seeking funding from a variety of sources to help realise this ambition and bring the much-loved Park back to life.
